Hudson Shop Laborer/ Warehouse

Job Purpose

The Shop Laborer performs general duties in the shop. Duties include operating basic hand tools and assisting machine operators and welders. Housekeeping and material handling are also components of this position.

Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Operates equipment such as: metal cutting saws, cutting torches, drills, material handling equipment and grinders.
  • Assists in shipping and receiving, loads and unloads materials onsite.
  • Reads and interprets plans, instructions, and specifications to determine work activities.
  • Signals equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
  • Tends to pumps, compressors, portables, machinery and equipment.
  • Lubricate machinery, equipment, or parts as needed.
  • Position, align, or level machines, equipment, or structures.
  • Clean tools, equipment, machinery & work areas.
  • Handles large piping and steel.
  • Assists technicians onsite with compressors and pumps as necessary.
  • Delivers and picks up items from vendors and customers.
  • Adheres to company rules and regulations.
  • Maintains a tidy and safe workspace.
  • Holds high safety standards including proactive assessment.
  • Executes daily work instructions received from Supervisor in a timely manner.

Qualifications, Education and Experience

Necessary and desirable qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following:
Qualifications include:

  • Must be able to operate forklifts and pallet jack
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Must be able to follow directions, verbal and written
  • Good communication skills
  • Timeliness and organizational skills a must
  • Must be able to use basic hand tools, grinder, saws, etc.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations and follow directions
  • Broad knowledge and experience in the industry
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team
  • Must have valid driver's license
  • Education (degree(s) required)
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience (years of experience in manufacturing environment)
    • 1+ years of experience in the general labor field, utilities work, shop maintenance, etc.

Working Conditions

This position will be first shift work. Overtime will be required at times. The work will be in a manufacturing environment. Could be cold in the winter months and hot in the summer months.

Physical Requirements

This job requires you to do repetitive tasks with few breaks. Needs the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. periodically, up to 75 lbs. occasionally. Needs to have the ability to crawl, climb/ladder, and work in and around mechanical equipment. Ability to stand up and sit down constantly in an 8 hours shift.

Supervision Received

Regular, supervisor is normally available for help/advice. Must be able to work with minimal guidance and follow established work methods.
